2013 Outstanding Seniors

Each year at the Academic Games National Tournament, AGLOA honors outstanding seniors who have been excellent players and who have contributed in special ways beyond themselves to their own local Academic Games teams and programs. Outstanding Senior candidates are nominated by their local coaches and programs.

In 2013, the AGLOA Tournament Council selected four incredible Seniors to receive the award. Each of them won championships as a player. More importantly, each of them spent significant extra time with their own teammates and with younger players in their school, district, or league.

  • Two kept their team going when their coach took paternity leave.
  • Another envisions a career as a school guidance counsellor after enjoying working with the younger players .
  • The fourth resuscitated his school's program by recruiting and training new players.

Each Outstanding Senior will be highlighted in more detail in the monthly AGazines at agloa.org.

2013 Outstanding Educators

Each year at the Academic Games National Tournament, AGLOA honors outstanding educators who have been the heart and soul of their local Academic Games programs. They recruit and train players, educate them in subject matter, inspire them to exceed their own expectations, encourage them to handle challenges, and manage the administration of their programs. The best of them do these things in an exceptional manner. Candidates are nominated by their own players or fellow coaches.

In 2013, AGLOA chose two incredible recipients for the award.

  • One attended his first AGLOA National Tournament this year but had been a successful coach in the Michigan League of Academic Games for many years.
  • The other started Academic Games as a parent in the St. Vrain School District in Colorado because he wanted his children to experience the benefits he had reaped as a player in Ann Arbor MI.
