2018 Outstanding Seniors
Four seniors were honored in Knoxville not only for their successful careers as players but also for their contributions to their team's and league's programs.
  • After playing Academic Games in Ann Arbor from 5th-8th grade, Kern Chepeha moved with his family to Toronto. Did that end his career? Not on your life. He made the 500-mile round trip to attend the Saturday tournaments to stay with his team through Nationals.
  • Nameera Islam was the de facto coach at her high school in Jefferson Parish LA. In addition to conducting practices for her schoolmates, she taught elementary school students in her spare time.
  • When he started high school in Ann Arbor, James Riddell, a player since 4th grade, organized a new team at a middle school and dedicated two nights a week to coaching them.
  • Trevor Wood of the Franklin Area (PA) School District organized practices at his home not only for his own team but also for players from nearby districts.

Each Outstanding Senior will be highlighted in more detail in the monthly AGazines at agloa.org.

2018 Outstanding Educators
Outstanding Academic Games coaches have been honored for over 40 years for their major contributions in their own district programs, plus their efforts at the national tournament.
  • Connie Ginste became a coach in Detroit 40 years ago and loved it so much that, after she retired, she started successful programs at two new districts.
  • Andrew Walsh, the Assistant Director of the Palm Beach (FL) Academic Games League, attended five Nationals as a player and now six as a coach. Not content to coach just during the school year, he has organized summer camps for his Academic Games players.

Each Outstanding Educator will be highlighted in more detail in the monthly AGazines at agloa.org.
