Larry Liss (1941-2016)
It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Academic Games has lost one of its greatest champions.
Larry Liss, one of the founders of the Academic Games Leagues of America (AGLOA), passed away on Monday, December 12th at the age of 75.
Larry was an integral part of Academic Games, almost from the beginning. He worked closely with Bob Allen, who authored many of the games, to help promote and teach the games in the 1960s and ‘70s.
He continued with his efforts over the next 50 years, as a champion for education and opportunities for students around the country.
In 1991, along with Brother Neal Golden, Stu White and the late Jim Davis, Larry founded AGLOA. In the years following, he served as the organization’s executive director, tournament director and tournament manager, overseeing many of the administrative details with running the national tournament.
Larry left a lasting legacy not only in Academic Games but in the educational community. His firm belief in developing students of character, integrity, and excellence will be a lasting mantra for the thousands of students he has impacted through his many endeavors.
