Presidents #1-12 El/Mid Clue from Nationals 2016

I married Margaret Smith. Our son Richard became a Confederate general during the Civil War. My last  words were "I have always done my duty. I am ready to die. My only regret is for the friends I leave behind me."

2016 Outstanding Seniors
Outstanding Senior players are nominated by their local Districts and selected at the National Tournament by the AGLOA Tournament Council. The criteria for selection include a long-term Academic Games career and overall excellence in Academic Games. However, the #2 criterion is how these 12th graders have assisted in developing or enriching their own Academic Games district and league programs over the years. Each of the four 2016 Academic Games Outstanding Seniors exhibited all these qualities – in spades.
  • Charles Bowers (Central Valley High School, PA) coached 5th graders in Presidents and World Events.
  • Christian Fernandez (Haynes Academy, Jefferson Parish LA) spearheaded Saturday practices for any players from his school district and coached his high school peers while his teacher worked with the Middle Division players.
  • Elise Howard (Suncoast High School, Palm Beach County FL) kept the academic games program alive at her high school, following in the footsteps of previous Outstanding Senior winners Jessica Stone and Brittany Fischer.
  • Dominique Lousteau (Brother Martin High School, New Orleans) found time in his very busy schedule to return to his elementary school to serve as an assistant coach.
Each Outstanding Senior will be highlighted in more detail in the monthly AGazines at agloa.org.
2016 Outstanding Educators
Outstanding academic games coaches have been honored for over 40 years for their major contributions in their own district programs, plus their efforts at the national tournament. Three received honors in Atlanta.
  • Karl Cushnie, who was a Nationals competitor when he was in 7th grade and has worked in Academic Games for over 30 years in his rural area in the Western part of Palm Beach County FL.
  • Brother Neal Golden for 50 years of service to academic games during which he founded the New Orleans league and developed the widely-used Equations and On-Sets worksheets as well as learning materials for President and Propaganda.
  • Yang Yang, a parent who learned about Academic Games from the Michigan League of Academic Games a few years ago and was so excited that she recruited students in the Northville MI schools and conducted practices in her own home.
Each Outstanding Educator will be highlighted in more detail in the monthly AGazines at agloa.org.
