2014 Nationals Pricing

The AGLOA Board of Directors agreed on the following principles for the 2014 National Tournament in Knoxville, TN.

  1. The Registration Fee for all players and coaches remains $110.
  2. The Registration Fee for non-coach adults attending the tournament will be $55. This fee includes a t-shirt and an ID name badge (required for entrance to the Knoxville Convention Center where competition will take place).
  3. All coaches, teams, and individuals who participate in the 2014 National Tournament must stay at one of the tournament hotels and utilize the Tournament Meal Plan. The hotels are the Holiday Inn Downtown (primarily for Elementary/Middle players and adults), Hilton (primarily for high school players and adults), and the Crowne Plaza (exclusively for high school players and adults).
  4. The room cost at all tournament hotels will be $125 per night—up to four person per room and includes taxes.
  5. The meal costs will be $150 per person for all nine meals (including taxes and gratuity).
  6. There will be an optional Sunday Fun Night at Market Square, which is two blocks from the Knoxville Convention Center. All AGLOA activities at Market Square will be free to tournament participants. Meals will be available for purchase from Market Square restaurants or on-site vendors from 5-9 PM.

This year’s tournament rules are available for Equations, On-Sets, and LinguiSHTIK. Updated rules for the other academic games will be posted soon.

Order form for local questions

The form for ordering local question sets in the reading games will soon be sent to league coordinators. Accompanying the request will be a request for the calendar of events for each league. Questions will be available for local play according to this timetable.

  • Propaganda – September 15
  • Presidents – October 15
  • World Events – December 15

 

Salman Khan Salutes AGLOA

The founder of The Khan Academy, which provides instructional videos viewed by over six million people each month, was in New Orleans recently to discuss his new book, The One World Schoolhouse. He signed a special copy for AGLOA.

Down Memory Lane

The first Academic Games national tournament in the Orlando area took place in 1992, the year in which AGLOA was formed. The tournament took place in Kissimmee, FL, and 508 participated, all staying in one hotel (pictured below).

AGLOA returned to Kissimmee the following year, with attendance increasing to 611. Since then, the tournament has been held in Kissimmee in the following years – with attendance listed.

  • 2011 – 987

The 50th anniversary tournament will be held in Kissimmee in 2015.
