There are three Academic Games leagues in Louisiana, all near the New Orleans metropolitan area

  • Jefferson Parish Academic Games League

  • St. Bernard Parish Academic Games League

The top qualifiers from each of the three leagues are invited to the Louisiana Academic Games Invitational, held before each national tournament. The competition consists of two rounds of On-Sets and two rounds of Equations.

New Orleans Academic Games League

Established The first Academic Games tournament in New Orleans took place during the Christmas holidays of 1966-67 at Mount Carmel Academy. A team from Mount Carmel had participated in the first national Academic Games tournament in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the previous spring and taught the game of Equations to students and teachers from other New Orleans schools that fall. The Christmas tournament, in addition to Equations, included the game of Propaganda. The New Orleans Equations League was formed in 1967 by Brother Neal Golden and other teachers whose students had participated in the tournament. The charter members were all Catholic high schools.

St. Bernard Parish Academic Games League

Established The first Academic Games tournament in St. Bernard took place in December of 1993. 98 students from elementary and middle schools participated in the event. The only game played that year was Equations. On-Sets was added to the competition the following school year and the number of participants increased. During the 1996-97 school year, over 300 elementary, middle, and high school students participated in the local tournaments. 30 of the highest scoring individuals attended the national tournament in Kissimmee, FL. They brought home a winning team trophy and two undefeated players.
