Remember this clue from Jr/Sr Presidents #25-44?

While serving in the Senate, I disappeared from the public eye to recover from near-fatal back surgery. Then I came close to getting the vice presidential nomination of my party. I was never much interested in legislation. I spent my first Senate term in uncertain health and in my second began a presidential run. My election changed the party in control of the White House.
