Academic Games community,
In a matter of days, the spread of COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic has changed our everyday lives and the way that we do things, such as our competitions.
For the past 54 years, Academic Games has had a national tournament in April. Because of the COVID-19/coronavirus national emergency and serious health concerns, AGLOA is forced to cancel its national competition this year.
We monitored the situation closely this week, and it became increasingly clear in recent days that we cannot have a tournament. Several school districts issued travel bans, President Trump declared a national emergency and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommended against having gatherings of more than 50 people.
Having no tournament this year is incredibly disappointing for our participants, who have worked hard all year to qualify and prepare for the competition. Out of an abundance of concern for everyone’s health and well being, we are taking the best course possible to ensure that none of our participants contracts or unknowingly spreads the virus.
If you made reservations with the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, you should be receiving a cancellation notice within the next couple of days. If you have paid a deposit to AGLOA already, it will be refunded in the coming days as well.
We encourage everyone to continue to follow instructions recommended by the CDC to stay healthy in these uncertain times.
We look forward to seeing you at 2021 tournament in Wheeling, West Virginia.
