Many teams set goals for what they want to do at the national tournament. It’s not too early to start now in getting your players focused on what their goals are for the entire year. Setting longer-term goals allows them to check their progress throughout the year and figure out what they need to do to be where they want to be at the end of the year.
Have players set specific, realistic goals that you can post in a classroom or somewhere visible so that they can refer to them throughout the year. Then, if a student is wasting time or doing something negative, he or she can look at the goals that he or she set and think about whether the specific behavior will lead to that goal.
