Each player in Academic Games competes as an individual. However, he or she should prepare and practice as part of a team. Veteran players may not be enthused about practicing a game they feel they know well, especially if it’s their least favorite academic game. However, they must be enlisted to help their younger or less experienced teammates. This will give purpose to their practice and help them deepen their understanding of each game by explaining its content and strategies to others. Veterans can be energized by sharing their “secrets” and “tricks” with newcomers.
