Preparing for the Current Events Round of World Events

There are many sources for current events information. Almanacs are an excellent source of current events. Unfortunately the almanac for 2006 current events is not published until November of 2006. My two favorite almanacs are the New York Times Almanac and Book of Facts and The Infoplease Almanac. Check infoplease.com; it takes a little searching but the current events are there online. They are published month by month and save you the cost of the almanac.

You can also join any of a number of “Current Events Leagues.” Those can provide you with a vast array of questions. Having a weekly current events discussion with your students is also useful.

Have your students write and submit questions they believe will be asked. They will be surprised how often they will be correct at tournaments.
