Setting Goals

To achieve success in any endeavor, a participant needs both short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goals involve what you are doing right now to prepare for the next contest. Long-term goals involve a continuous commitment to success over a period of time (for example, a school year). As a coach, don’t overlook long-term goals in your haste to prepare players for the next challenge.

Long-term goals include building pride, loyalty, and a commitment to excellence, both individually and as a team. You cannot motivate players who have not set any goals.
