During my junior year at Georgetown University, I worked as a clerk for the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. My last year at Georgetown, I won a Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford University in England. However, with the Vietnam War raging, I had to get permission from my local draft board to do so.
