Senator A: “We can cut the Defense Department budget by at least 25% without endangering the country’s security. The military is top-heavy with officers and generals. Encourage them to retire early. You can combine the medical services of the various branches. The Defense Department has more employees now than it did during World War II.”
Senator B: “I beg to differ with my esteemed colleague. The Defense Department needs its full staff of employees because it is responsible for protecting us around the world just as in World War II. I for one will not vote to reduce military spending.”
